Broom

Broom dance
Broom dance

The version we dance comes from Devon. Dancers hold the broom and dance from one leg to the other whilst passing the handle under and over their legs. They then lay the broom on the ground and dance various steps over the handle, finally picking up the handle and repeating the under/over movement, whilst the music gets faster and the dancers make every effort to keep going. Lots of energy is needed for this dance. The brooms are usually highly decorated with paint, ribbons and flowers to the individuals taste.

We dance the broom dance to the tune 'The Keel Row".
